The song "Asteromata" will represent Greece in the 69th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Basel, Switzerland, as this country won the 2024 contest. "Asteromata" is performed by Klavdia, born Klavdia Papadopoulou. Although she goes by the stage name Klavdia (written in Latin characters), Klavdia was born and raised in Aspropyrgos by Pontian parents who repatriated to Greece in 1991 from the Soviet Union. That is why the song refers to refugeehood and uprooting. The Greek public got to know her through the Greek version of the television contest The Voice, where she had reached the final, but also in 2023 when she was again a candidate for Eurovision with the song Holy Water, which in final was not chosen to represent Greece. But those most attached to television music shows certainly remember when, at the age of 14, she performed Michael Jackson's song Billie Jean on SKAI's show "Greece, You Got Talent / Ellada echeis talento" in 2017.
Asteromata
My star,
My star,
My sweet mother, do not weep,
Though they dress you in mourning black.
This faded, weary body of mine,
No flame can ever crack.
The swallows born of fire’s embrace,
No matter how far they roam,
Shall never forget the sacred earth
That once they called their home.
Oh, my little starry-eyed one,
Lean, let me kiss you.
Upon your holy tears of light,
Let my parched lips rest anew.
Oh, my little starry-eyed one,
Lean, let me hold you.
Let these weary, forgotten wings
Find their last breath upon you.
Ah, my star, my precious light…
My sweet mother, do not weep,
My life’s a vessel, drifting free,
Forever searching for its home,
The wind, its sail at sea.
Oh, my little starry-eyed one,
Lean, let me hold you.
Let these weary, forgotten wings
Find their last breath upon you.
Ah, my star, my precious light…
Ah, my star, my precious light…
My star…
